In 1990, Model Engineer magazine published a series of articles by Dave Lammas titled A Model at War on the Alco Firefly. After the first article was published, Ian Bradley, a subscriber of and long time contributor to the magazine called the editor and explained that he was the works manager at Arthur Lyon & Co. during the war and was responsible for creating the Alco Firefly. He was interviewed for a later article in the series.

Ian Bradley was a well-known model engineer of the 20th century and a prolific author on the subject, writing hundreds of articles for Model Engineer from the 1920s to the 1990s and several books.
